  37. sam_initialize \- Initialize health checking
  38. .SH SYNOPSIS
  39. .P
  40. \fB#include <corosync/sam.h>\fR
  41. .P
  42. \fBcs_error_t sam_initialize (int\fR \fItime_interval\fR\fB, sam_recovery_policy_t \fIrecovery_policy\fR);\fR
  43. .SH DESCRIPTION
  44. .P
  45. The \fBsam_initialize\fR function is used to initialize health checking of a process.
  46. .P
  47. Application can have only one instance of SAM. This function must be called
  48. before any other of SAM functions. It is recommended to initialize before the
  49. process begins any process initialization.
  50. .P
  51. The \fItime_interval\fR parameter is a timeout in milliseconds before taking
  52. recovery action after having not received a healthcheck.
  53. If \fItime_interval\fR parameter is zero, there is no time limit and no
  54. healthcheck must be sent by the process. In this operational mode, a process
  55. failure will continue to execute the recovery policy.
  56. .P
  57. The \fIrecovery_policy\fR is defined as type:
  58. .nf
  59. typedef enum {
  60. SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_QUIT = 1,
  61. SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_RESTART = 2,
  62. SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_QUORUM = 0x08,
  63. SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_QUORUM_QUIT = SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_QUORUM | SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_QUIT,
  64. SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_QUORUM_RESTART = SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_QUORUM | SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_RESTART,
  65. SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_CMAP = 0x10,
  66. SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_CONFDB = 0x10,
  67. } sam_recovery_policy_t;

  70. where
  71. .TP
  72. SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_QUIT
  73. on failure, the process will terminate.
  74. .TP
  75. SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_RESTART
  76. on failure, the process will restart.
  77. .TP
  78. SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_QUORUM
  79. is not policy. Used only as flag meaning quorum integration
  80. .TP
  81. SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_QUORUM_QUIT
  82. same as \fISAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_QUIT\fR but \fBsam_start (3)\fR will block until corosync becomes
  83. quorate and process will be terminated if quorum is lost.
  84. .TP
  85. SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_QUORUM_RESTART
  86. same as \fISAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_RESTART\fR but \fBsam_start (3)\fR will block until corosync becomes
  87. quorate and process will be restarted if quorum is lost.
  88. .TP
  89. SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_CMAP
  90. is not policy. Used only as flag meaning cmap integration. It can be used with all previous policies.
  91. For backward compatibility, SAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_CONFDB with same meaning as
  92. \fISAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_CMAP\fR is also provided.
  93. .P
  94. To perform event driven healthchecking, \fBsam_register(3)\fR and
  95. \fBsam_start(3)\fR functions must called. Event driven healthchecking causes
  96. the duplicate standby process running the SAM serve rto periodically request
  97. healthchecks from the active process.
  98. .SH RETURN VALUE
  99. .P
  100. This call return CS_OK value if successful, otherwise and error is returned.
  101. .SH ERRORS
  102. .TP
  103. CS_ERR_BAD_HANDLE
  104. can happened in case of double initialization.
  105. .TP
  106. CS_ERR_INVALID_PARAM
  107. \fIrecovery_policy\fR has invalid value.
