  35. .SH NAME
  36. .P
  37. sam_start \- Start health checking
  38. .SH SYNOPSIS
  39. .P
  40. \fB#include <corosync/sam.h>\fR
  41. .P
  42. \fBcs_error_t sam_start (void);\fR
  43. .SH DESCRIPTION
  44. .P
  45. The \fBsam_start\fR function is used to start health checking of application.
  46. After calling this function, the active process needs to send healthchecks
  47. within the registered time interval by calling \fBsam_hc_send(3)\fR. If
  48. event driven healthchecking is configured by calling \fBsam_register(3)\fR,
  49. an internal thread will be created and send health check confirmations four
  50. times per \fItime_interval\fR.
  51. .P
  52. Application must be registered by calling \fBsam_register(3)\fR before this
  53. function can be called.
  54. .P
  55. An application can always stop health checking by calling the \fBsam_stop(3)\fR
  56. function.
  57. .P
  58. If SAM is initialized with quorum policy \fISAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_QUIT\fR or
  59. \fISAM_RECOVERY_POLICY_RESTART\fR \fBsam_start\fR will block until corosync
  60. becomes quorate.
  61. .SH RETURN VALUE
  62. .P
  63. This call return CS_OK value if successful, otherwise and error is returned. If
  64. SAM is initialized with quorum policy, returned error can also be quorum error.
  65. .SH ERRORS
  66. .TP
  67. CS_ERR_BAD_HANDLE
  68. component was not registered by calling \fBsam_register(3)\fR function.
